1917 Vulcan Pile Driving Machinery Catalog and more --- 116 Pages of Great Information

Every railroad and logging operation needed a pile driver in order to build trestles, bridges and foundations.

This CD contains the complete 1917 Vulcan Pile Driving Machinery Catalog.  69 pages.  Plus it contains 47 pages of extra information on foundations and the choice of materials for piles and basic operation of pile drivers.  This information was taken from the publication on Foundations published by the International Textbook Company in 1908.

Several different types of pile drivers are shown with explanations on their use.

Detailed drawings such as that seen on the right helped the potential buyer understand what equipment was needed and how it operated.

These same drawings will help you build a more accurate model.

Back in 1988 I scratchbuilt an On3 pile driver using the best photos and information I had available to me at the time.

That model was chosen by Model Railroader Magazine to be their Model Of The Month for May of 1990.

If I had the information contained in this CD back then it would have been much easier to build my model and it would have been more accurate and better detailed.

I had so many questions about how things would have been done but I could not find any helpful information about how pile drivers were actually built back in the early 1900s.

Now that information is available on this CD.

Here is a photo of the pile driver I built back in 1988.

It is based on the Simon Benson pile driver featured in the book  Simon Benson: Northwest Lumber King.

Scrathchbuilt in On3.  Some parts from CHB which are now available from Sierra West Scale Models.

The figures are a mix of sources including a Monogram 1/48 scale bomber crew.

Having the information contained in this CD would have made for a better, more accurate model.
